I love this! I sometimes use the Substack audio feature. But, I've found that the computer voice mispronounces a lot of words. I much prefer hearing it "from the horses mouth". You have an accent- but, pronounce everything correctly.

I think the voiceovers are great, Thomas. Reading and listening at the same time is a great way to get the content. I combine my voiceovers on Protecting the Rule of Law (https://perfectingrol.substack.com/) with AI voices to create a conversation.

I love the audio. I am one of those people who is rarely in a sitting position, and rely on audio essays and podcasts to keep up with our crazy news cycle. Thank you for doing what you do.

I like having the option to listen when I don’t have the time to read. Your vocal reading of the essay enhances and clarifies your written voice.

Thank you! I’m a fan of audio reading and hearing your essays in your voice will be great!

Thank you very much for making the effort to provide an audio version of your articles! After spending all day staring at screens, I rely on audio to catch up on new and perspectives, and appreciate hearing your article, in your voice. Great job on this first voice-over!

That is a great idea! Listening to articles is much easier for me than reading them. I know this is very time consuming, even under the best of circumstances, so thank you very, very much!

Thanks for this feature. I listen to your podcast also !!!! Listening to your Substack allows me to do other things, and I enjoy having the transcripts (essays) when I need to make notes. 👍🏼

I enjoy listening. Your voice is very agreeable. Grand idea, indeed. Thank you for your endeavours as to Democracy. It's in serious danger worldwide. I do hope America will vote for freedom and humanity, for DEMOCRACY.

I love your feeling/thinking/writing, and happily follow your lead on how to better engage some people. The writing, of course, stands, and the points you unfold and articulate are (by my way of reading) timely, clear, and based on carefully defined preferences for inclusive and 'democratically' shaped values. That a certain liberal consensus has been strained to the breaking point in the US is always informing the general thrust of what you cover. You manage to foreground a flexible, historically-informed sense of changes without hanging up overmuch on trying to define or type the rough grouped beast bent on disruption of comfort with diversity. You are an antidote to what Jay Rosen calls "the news from nowhere." I wasn't planning to write a rave. I'm just so grateful that I can learn from the modest and generous soul that your work embodies for me. And now I'm dying to hear what sort (if much of any!) accent I can hear in your voice speaking English .

That’s fantastic! I listen while I do chores, so this is really helpful. And thank you sooo much for reading it yourself! I hate the computer voices…

I listen to podcasts all the time when I can’t read the articles while driving, chores, etc.

Adding audio in your voice is a good idea! I can’t deal with listening to AI or other mechanical voiceovers. They’re so boring.

I don't mind the AI text to speech, but the mistakes the AI makes can be very annoying and at times can lead to confusion. The effort put in by writers to read what they have composed is greatly appreciated!

Thank you for doing this! I really appreciate having the option to listen while driving or working, and I value your input on every issue you address.

Hmmm, I understand the value of adding audio. But I am retired and hearing impaired, so I have enough time to read articles which I prefer. I hope that adding the audio isn’t at the expense of the printed version.

Like I said in the post: Absolutely nothing changes about the writing. This is purely additive - I’m not taking anything off the table.

I love this! I enjoy reading but listening is much more enjoyable. I got in the horrible habit of speed reading thru research grant applications when I worked…so listening is much better for me. Thank you!
